Julius’s saying is not a quote from Boyd Hemphill, but it’s a sentiment Hemphill taught me, put with a bluntness Hemphill excels at. The idea is that programmers should be automating everyting they do so that, when you’re done, you don’t need them for that original thing.

Hemphill’s actual words were something more like, “Make yourself unnecessary and you make yourself indispensible.”
